New Rock Generation Director Chris Hamilton has been teaching band workshops for over 15 Years.
Our specialised courses were originally designed for Blatchington Mill School's Community Arts Project. Due to the success of these workshops, New Rock Generation Ltd was formed in 2012 and now offers its courses / events to young people across Brighton and Hove.
Many of our previous students are working as professional musicians or have gone on to study music at A Level and Degree Level.
What We Do
New Rock Generation provides young people aged 9-18 with expert tuition in band skills, song writing / creative composition, studio recording, pre-production and live performance techniques.
We offer workshops and masterclasses in local professional studios and performance opportunities at real live music venues.
We also provide tailor made workshops / enrichment activities to local schools.

Bands are matched according to age and experience. Whether you have never played in a band before or are an experienced band member, New Rock Generation is for you.
Chris is a professionally trained musician with over 15 years of teaching and live performance experience. Chris gained Qualified Teacher Status in 2009 and now splits his time between running New Rock Generation, 1:1 guitar/bass lessons, mainstream classroom teaching and Live Performance either with his own original projects or as a session musician. He is also heavily involved in organising many under 18 gigs within the local area, most notably “Teenspirit” – a showcase of Brighton and Hove’s best under 18’s bands held at the Concorde 2.
Chris has been taught by / played with / worked alongside many successful musicians such as: Guthrie Govan (Dizzee Rascal, Asia), Michael Caswell (Brian May, Joe Bonamassa, Steve Hackett, Ronan Keating, Rose Royce, Cozy Powell), Public Image Ltd. (Johnny Rotten), Rizzle Kicks, Jon Stewart (Sleeper, Mel C, KD Lang), Phil Campbell (Motorhead), Nicko McBrian (Iron Maiden) and Steve Morse (Deep Purple) plus many more.
Chris has full Qualified Teacher Status from the University of Chichester and a diploma, HND and BA hons degree in professional musicianship from Brighton Institute of Modern Music.
Dan is an experienced session musician, front man and song writer. He has recently been recording in Abby Road Studios and performing as live guitarist for 'Jimi Charles Moody'.
With Dan's own bands he has toured / worked with artists such as Public Image Limited, Rizzle Kicks, Producers Pete Smith (Police, Sting, Stevie Wonder, Boomtown Rats) and Martin ‘Youth’ Glover (U2, Paul McCartney, the Verve, Killing Joke).
Dan has been working with NRG for over 3 years and specialises in live performance techniques.
As a former student Dan himself attended New Rock Generation Courses under Blatchington Mill School's Community Arts Project and is a prime example of the work we do here at NRG.
James is a bassist with a mass of live performance and songwriting experience.
He has recently been very busy playing in his band ‘Running Dogs’ supporting acts such as Sham 69, Rizzle Kicks, Public Image Limited and the pigeon detectives. He has Toured the UK supporting Rizzle Kicks which included venues such as the Brighton Centre, Brixton Academy and Manchester Appolo. The band is currently working with the record producer Martin ‘Youth’ Glover (U2, Paul McCartney, the Verve, Killing Joke).
James specialises in bass guitar, melody writing and Band management / Self Promotion.
Darius has much experience in teaching guitar and tutoring bands as he started at the age of 15. He has recorded with many bands working with producers such as Ken Nelson (Coldplay, Gomez, Kings of convenience), Andy Green (Keane, The Feeling, Scouting for girls), and Paul Savage (Franz Ferdinand, The Gossip, Mogwai). Darius has performed many shows around the UK and Europe supporting well known bands and artists such as Pendulum, Turin Brakes, Ladyhawke, Does it offend you yeah?, The Pipettes, The Presets and Ratatat. Darius has a Diploma and Higher Diploma in Vocals and Songwriting from Brighton Institute of Modern Music and has since written songs for companies, adverts and continues to write as a solo artist.
Darius specialises in song writing and composition.
All regular tutors have up to date DBS checks and have completed standard child protection and safe guarding training
Any guest tutors are fully supervised at all times by a fully safeguarded member of staff
